Real Life Style Icon: Danica of ‘Fox and Gypsy’

This is one of many Real Life Style Icon interviews in which we talk to women who are funny, smart, interesting and stylish like whoa.

Name: Danica Friederich
Age: 25
Online haunts: blog // instagram // twitter // facebook
Three reasons that you’re awesome:
1. I’m currently learning how to play the harmonica. I also have a tambourine. I hope to one day add a harp, accordion and banjo to my collection.
2. I can also rap. This usually happens after a night out.
3. I have a huge collection of fashion magazines. I was a Magazine Journalism major at the University of Missouri and my passion has always been magazines and fashion. I will have a fabulous magazine library one day.

What are you wearing right now, as you type this?
We just finished shooting photos for next week’s fashion posts: a vintage NY Giants baseball jersey, a black maxi skirt, Kate Spade bracelets, a {faux} leather hair turban and vintage brown ankle boots.

What is the last item of clothing you bought?
Pants in the shade of Pantone’s 2013 color of the year – emerald.

What is the item of clothing you most covet at the moment?

Shakuhachi’s Acid Bloom kick out dress and art-deco inspired jewelry for our Great Gatsby themed party we are throwing.
Tell us about a favorite childhood memory about your clothes.Back to school, shopping was definitely my favorite – new jeans, shoes and even make-up. I loved to plan my outfits weeks in advance with all of the new pieces.

What is your best thrifting score?
I love all of my vintage jewelry because it is so timeless. I’ve snagged a great Christian Dior menswear sweater, an elegant cape and boots that are all heavily rotated in my wardrobe.
Could you tell us your top three style tricks/DIYs?
1. Don’t be afraid to shop online. Most places have free shipping and returns. This is how I find items that I can’t find in the stores (Nordstrom, Urban Outfitter’s and Revolve Clothing)
2.  Splurge on key pieces – a great trench, a fab riding boot and classic sunglasses. They all get better with age.
3. Rehab old items you haven’t worn in awhile before you decide to donate or sell. You can stud the shoulders or collar. Like we did here!

Thanks so much for sharing, Danica!
