Web Time Wasters

How was your week, friends? On Monday morning, I stepped off a 42-hour train ride (here are all my train travel tips!) The rest of the week was for lake swimming, movie watching, and writing/recording a big project!

Also! On August 2nd at 9 am PST, I’m hosting my very first live training with Melissa Camilleri. We’re talking about marketing for introverts + people who hate networking events!

Yes, it’s a webinar. Yes, it’ll be packed with super helpful info. If you’ve been thinking about hiring me for a Secret Weapon consult, there maaaaay even be a discount in there for you! Click here to sign up!

During my recent trip, I used Lyft for the first time and I’m never going back to Uber.
a) Uber tried to charge customers ‘safe ride fees‘ to properly screen their drivers (?!!!)
b) Lyft allows you to tip your driver inside the app so you don’t need to carry cash or stiff your driver.

When I shared this info on my personal Facebook page, my friend Levi said “Having driven for both companies I can say Lyft is FAR better to their drivers. I would talk everybody out of using and driving for Uber if I could.” Sold! If you use the code SARAH142905 you’ll get $50 off your first Lyft ride! What do you have to lose?

Another thing I learned about on this trip? AutoSlash. They “apply the best coupons and discounts, track rental price changes right up until the pickup date, and re-book your automatically – for free!”

And let’s talk about travel hacking and the Southwest Companion Pass. We’re thinking of applying for this in January of 2017!

By keeping our non-negotiable commitments to only 50% of our time, we leave the other 50% open for growth, self-development, and an ability to work much harder to deal with the black swan events that life inevitably serves up. While others might imagine we’re missing out on life by not stacking it up with more activities, I feel we’re allowing ourselves just the right amount of space to actually live it.

It really, really feels like 2016 has been the worst year in recent history. Here’s a good reminder:
Violent crime is at an all-time low, international wars are at an all-time low, there have been precipitous drops in domestic violence, steady declines in drunk driving-related deaths, death from infectious diseases and a rock-bottom child mortality rate. You’re more likely to be killed by a piece of furniture than by a terrorist attack.

Just a quick FYI on the Southwest credit cards for the companion pass, in case this might apply to you or any readers – Chase (the company that does the Southwest credit cards) has started enforcing a rule for credit card approvals where they won’t approve any new cards from someone who has more than 5 new credit card applications in the last 24 months. So if you’ve been getting some new cards in the past couple of years, beware that this might not work out. Here’s a blog post with some more details: http://thepointsguy.com/2016/07/unfortunate-expansion-chase-524-rule/

Additional FYI – you may get denied even if you are an AUTHORIZED USER on another person’s cards (this happened to my husband). They can count this as another application. However, we called and got this waived for my husband, so if that applies to you then just give them a call and explain what’s up.

Love all these! Those 6 tips for a healthy week are great (especially because when pressed for time in the middle of the week, I hate cutting up kale). I think I need to start reading this Mr. Money Mustache blog!
