Web Time Wasters

Well, it’s been a heart breaking week. I self-medicated with a cabin weekend with friends and lots of Halloween candy. Tomorrow: I’m suiting up, hunkering down, and re-committing to improving my tiny corner of the world.

So today, every single link you find here will be feel-good. I’ll save the cultural observation and long form feminist essays for future link round ups 😉

Great stuff from my lovely sponsors

Maji is living our collective travel dreams: Traveling around the Antarctic taking pictures of animals! Her photos are great and her stories are so interesting!
Our visit would coincide with their birthing and mating season. Just steps away from where the zodiac landed, was a group of about 20-30 Southern elephant seals were lounging on the beach, loudly yelping to one another.

Pretty much everything Christy writes is helpful and actionable and we could all probably benefit from her free mini course about how to hold onto self-care during the holidays and I loved her post about self-care without buying more stuff.

I always think of marigolds as cheap, sort of gaudy flowers. Reconsidered.

Now that it gets dark so early, I’ve put a personal moratorium on depressing documentaries/books/tv shows. Now it the time to stop consuming media in which  the main character dies in a horrible way/lives out a sad life of quiet desperation, Sarah. With that in mind I’m re-reading this and re-watching Parks & Rec. This book is supposed to be really sweet, too!

Two recipes that sound interesting: Celeriac Parsnip Mash With Crispy Sage and Maple Balsamic Roasted Brussels Sprouts.

A super colorful house tour.

The story of this 15-Year-Old Mongolian eagle huntress is the stuff fairy tales are made of (your inspirational weep for today.)

Are you an atheist who’s getting married? Here are some readings and vow ideas for you!
As atheists, [Name] and [Name] don’t believe that there’s an eternity for them after this life. There is only this life. Thus, to give oneself in marriage for this lifetime isn’t a waystation on the way to some other heavenly eternity—it is all there is. It is a commitment to be together until they no longer exist, until they are nowhere and nothing.

A cute hipster dude who looks like his dog and, of course, they dress alike because this is 2016 and that’s what you do on the internet.

Interviews with nine kindergartners about their first month of school.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
A policeman. No, a leopard.

Cute! These bachelor contestants fell in love with each other!
Marx wrote on Instagram that they started out as friends who were “dating the same guy,” and that chemistry between the two was there from the beginning. “Friendship ripened into something bolder, trust in a very strange situation was formed, and now every adventure we have rivals the other — and continues to make plans for itself.”

An idea whose time has come: Krispy Kreme bread pudding

I love tiny things so I obviously love this museum dedicated to teeny, tiny architectural models.

Related: I wish The Art Of Scent exhibit would have been open when I was in NYC two weeks ago!

Related: this perfume sounds amazing.

Are you already following Juniper The Fox on Instagram? Guaranteed to make you smile. (I particularly love the story about her special toy that she tries to share her treats with!)

Hope you guys are taking care of yourself after this rough week. <3

Have you read A Man Called Ove? It’s a super sweet read about a grumpy old man who’s planning on committing suicide and instead accidentally connects with his neighbors and builds a new family/life for himself. There are definitely sad parts, but overall it’s really heartwarming and triumph-y

You’re the third person who’s told me about that book – clearly I need to read it!
