Web Time Wasters

How was your week, friends? I just wrapped up a six-day road trip and a few days in Winnipeg for my yearly Mastermind retreat. So fun! So highly recommended! And it’s basically free because it’s just me + a bunch of internet buddies talking online business – no five-figure membership fees!

If you’d like to DIY your own Mastermind retreat, here’s how we did it. And I got so many DMs about Airbnb I stayed at in Winnipeg! This is it and, yes, that rooftop terrace was amazing. If you’ve never used Airbnb before, here’s a $40 credit towards your first booking!

I spent my mid-twenties teaching English in Taiwan and it is SUCH an overlooked travel destination. It’s cheap, safe, and easy to get around. The food is great, the people are friendly, and you won’t see hordes of other tourists where ever you go! A mini travel guide if I’ve piqued your interest!

Related: Taiwan’s door is always open for medical tourists. (True story: I got an enamel filling in Taiwan for $14 USD.)

Are you up to date on the drama of Geoffrey Owens and the Trader Joe’s pics? I loved his response.
“There is no job that’s better than another job. It might pay better, it might have better benefits, it might look better on a resume and on paper. But actually, it’s not better. Every job is worthwhile and valuable…No one should feel sorry for me. I’ve had a great life. I’ve had a great career. I’ve had a career that most actors would die for. So no one has to feel sorry for me. I’m doing fine!”

I loved this! In a sea of white paint and neutrals, I appreciated this maximalist entry way.

I’m #41 in the library queue for this book. Hope it’s worth it!

So much of self-employment and ‘success’ is about mindest – not just tactics and plugins. I loved Sarah’s post about three mindset shifts to help you get out of your own way and hit your goals.

My friend Cait officially retired from personal blogging and I totally get it.
Now, it feels like every platform (blogs, social, etc.) is a place for people to shout and be heard. We have been told we need to build, grow, make money and have all the answers. We need to be experts. I don’t want to be an expert. I just want to be a human.

How to use gender neutral words. (Also: why is Teen Vogue so much better than ‘real’ Vogue?)

Stop being intimidated by these stupid things.

A random recommendation: if you’re looking to change careers and need to expand your skill set, or if you want to ask for a raise and want to bulk up your skill set before you do, all the Lynda.com courses are free with a public library card!

Turn off your push notifications. All of them.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

I had no idea you spent your twenties in Taiwan! It’s such an awesome country, we people from Hong Kong always take weekend trips there because it’s a relatively close short getaway. I love the street food there, mmm! 🙂

Yes! Not nearly enough people know about Lynda! There are so many resources available at public libraries beyond books!

You will love that book. It’s light and funny, so it’s an enjoyable read even without all the amazingly valuable tips about parenting/family happiness!

Thanks for the Airbnb recommendation! Winnipeg is one of my favorite cities 🙂

The maximalist entryway isn’t my style, but I love the idea. We’re currently staying in a minimalist hotel–the AirBnB didn’t work out. Instead of living with no place to put our stuff, we made a quick trip to Target and bought and installed a bunch of 3M removable hooks. I’ll pack them up when we leave and never travel without them again.
